Hillmen conclude impressive camp against local powers

The Hillmen wrapped up a three day camp last week which saw them go toe to toe against perennial playoff teams Inderkum and Oakdale, and a Sacramento High squad that has enjoyed some playoff success in recent seasons. On offense, behind a strong offensive line, several players turned in impressive performances, including quarterback Marcus Ante, running back Waylen Cozad, and fullback Morgan Robinson.  On defense, linebacker Brian Stangland had an impressive camp, as did cornerback Anthony Pierce, and the defensive line of Logan Crawford, the reigning PVL defensive MVP,  and defensive tackles Simeon Engle and Jacob Capra. With just over two months before the start of the season, Placer looks to be gearing up for yet another big season. After a 10 day break, the Hillmen will begin summer workouts at 4pm on June 22nd. Read all about the camp and check out some great pics in Ike Dobson’s article in the Auburn Journal!

Hillmen to face Rio Linda in first round of playoffs tonight at 7pm

After winning their third straight PVL title last week, the Hillmen (8-2) will be looking to make some noise in the playoffs, which kick off tonight at home against Rio Linda (8-2) at 7pm.  The Placer defense which was stingy during league play, giving up just over 10 points per game, will be faced with the challenge of shutting down the Knights impressive backfield duo of  Marcel Brown (1,411 yards, 22 TDs) and Calvin Robinson (1,008 yards). QB Clark Pietromonaco (1316 yards passing, 13 TDs) will lead a well balanced Hillmen (45 points per game in league play) offense that will look to continue their impressive play of late.  Thanks in large part to strong play by the offensive line, the Hillmen ground game racked up over 290 yards per game over the past month.  The backfield will get a boost tonight when FB Jared Halbert, who missed last week with an injury returns to action. Not to be overlooked, Placer has averaged 131 yards per game through the air as well. It figures to be a great game, so come on out to Lefebvre Stadium and catch all the action!  If you can’t make it to the game, tune in to 950AM KAHI to hear the action and follow us for live updates on Twitter!  Click on the link below to to read about the matchup in today’s Auburn Journal!

Scott grabs Athlete of the week honors after running over Falcons

Heading into last week’s showdown it was Colfax’s Tim Rawlins who received all the hype, but on Friday night,  Hillmen Running back Owen Scott put on a show of his own.  Scott ran over the Falcons defense all night long, rushing for 173 yards and one touchdown, earning him Athlete of the Week honors.  Scott, who outrushed Rawlins on the night,  had several runs where he carried 3-4 defenders downfield with him.  After battling injuries early in the season, the junior came on strong in league play giving the Hillmen another dangerous offensive weapon in their offensive attack. So far this season, Scott has 502 rushing yards and four touchdowns on the ground, and 226 yards receiving and one receiving touchdown. Check out today’s Auburn Journal for more on Scott and his performance!
